A Brief Look At Our Organization And Its History

spectris plc

The company is owned by Spectris plc and was formed when Infrared Engineering Ltd (which had been acquired in 1992) merged in 1998 with NDC Systems Inc. (which had been acquired in 1997). Both companies had operated as private entities until their acquisition and the roots of both were to be found in the rapid advances in sensor technology in the 1960's and 70's.  Spectris is listed on the London Stock Exchange and owns a number of companies operating in four business sectors:

  • Materials Analysis
  • Test and Measurement
  • In-Line Instrumentation (NDC)
  • Industrial Controls

Group turnover is approximately 1.2 billion US Dollars.

Both "IE" and "NDC" companies were founded by entrepreneur-scientists who exploited their knowledge to develop practical applications of their science in the form of measurement devices for industrial processes. Infrared Engineering was best known for its infrared moisture measurements and NDC for its nucleonic mass measurement devices.

Today the company embraces a wide range of measurement technologies in order to offer our customers the very best measurement solution for their process.

R&D is fundamental to NDC's business philosophy and we have a highly skilled and innovative team of engineers developing on-line measurement technologies and the software and hardware solutions that go with them. Specialisms include sensor and detector technology, software programming and development, optical engineering, hardware design and many others.
