The OptiMike OM190 optical micrometer provides direct,
single-sided thickness measurement for non-metallic sheet and thick
film products.
The sensor incorporates a light emitting diode (LED) that projects
a beam of light across the apex of the product wrapped over a
reference-backing roll. On the opposite side of the roll, a
precision charged couple device (CCD) micrometer array measures the
exact location of the top surface of the product as the sensor
scans the sheet. An integrated eddy current sensor measures the
distance to the surface of the roll.
The data from the CCD array and the eddy current sensor are
combined to provide a total thickness measurement.
A thermo-electric cooling system delivers stable cooling for the
sensor and its electronics respectively. The sensor does not
require air or water utilities, further contributing to its
reliability, low operating cost, and ease of installation.
The measurement technique does not penetrate the product surface,
nor is it sensitive to the color, gloss, opacity or porosity of the
material. The sensor’s standoff from web provides
non-contacting
measurement that also prevents sensor damage in the event of a web
break.
This intelligent iSensor™ incorporates a full suite of diagnostics
that are supported by an interactive graphic user interface
(GUI).
The OptiMike’s measurement platform is the
MiniTrak-S scanner with a precision roll that together delivers
robust single-sided measurement performance.
This non-nuclear sensor offers a high return on investment with a
low total cost of ownership and does not require regulatory
licenses. The result: high-resolution measurement with excellent
repeatability, reliability and accuracy.
