NIR Sensors use Near Infrared energy to make direct measurements
of specific constituents or components of products during
processing. They operate on the principal that certain wavelengths
of NIR energy are selectively absorbed by these constituents.
NDC Infrared Engineering manufactures a range of NIR
Sensors for applications in Extruded Film manufacturing:
- IG710 Backscatter
Sensor - Coatweight and Moisture Measurements
- FG710 & TFG
Transmission Sensors - Measurements of Film
Thickness or Grammage in Biax, Cast and Blown Films, Thin Biax and
Cast Films and Individual Layer Thickness or Grammage in
Co-extrusions and for Barrier Layers
Each sensor configuration lends itself to particular products to
offer a no-compromise measurement solution.
The advantage of NIR measurement technology is that it is
completely safe, with extremely low energy levels in a safe area of
the electromagnetic spectrum. This means that no special shielding
is required nor any licensing or special safety training for
operators.
NDC has developed NIR sensors so that they offer the highest
measurement resolution of any NIR on-line sensor and each sensor
makes one complete measurement every 7.5 milliseconds.
