When you need to measure absolute thickness, NDC Infrared
Engineering laser caliper sensors are designed to make an absolute
thickness measurement regardless of varying densities, colors, or
other product constituents. There are two sensors in the range:
- Model 172 Gauge - Laser Caliper - Dual-sided
- Model 170 Gauge - Laser Caliper - Single-sided
The Model 172 Dual-sided and Model
170 Single-sided Laser Caliper Sensors are designed to
measure absolute thickness of products up to 15mm (0.4 in) thick,
independent of product density, making them ideal for profile
measurements of products of inconsistent density.
The laser technology incorporated into the design allows the
sensors to be insensitive to changes in product color and surface
reflectivity.
The dual headed 172 Sensor incorporates lasers on both the top
and bottom to determine surface position on both sides of the
sheet. The design also incorporates a Radio Frequency Sensor to
compensate for any changes in the measurement gap distance. By
combining these three pieces of information, the true product
thickness is derived.
In the Single-sided 170 Sensor, a laser sensor detects the precise
location of the top surface of the material, while an RF inductance
sensor determines the position of a backing roll, plate, or shoe
that the bottom surface of the product is riding on. By combining
these two measurements, absolute thickness can be measured.
Model 172 and 170 features:
