NIR Sensors use Near Infrared energy to make direct
measurements of moisture and coatings during paper processing. They
operate on the principal that certain wavelengths of NIR energy are
selectively absorbed by these constituents.
The advantage of NIR measurement technology is that it is
completely safe, with no need for special shielding or
licensing or operator safety training.
NDC has developed NIR sensors with the highest measurement
resolution: each sensor makes one complete measurement every 7.5
milliseconds. The Series 710 Sensors incorporate a patented dual
detector system to achieve unrivalled stability and superb signal
to noise performance.
For the Paper Industry, NDC Infrared Engineering manufactures
two principle sensor configurations, each lending itself to
particular measurement solutions:
- IG710S Backscatter (or Diffuse Reflection)
- FS710S Forward Scatter (or Diffuse Transmission)
The IG710S
Backscatter Sensor makes extremely accurate
coat weight and moisture measurements, scanning or fixed point.
The IG710S is available in single and mulit-component formats
and can measure both coat weight and moisture simultanously. The
IG710S is capable of measuring a wide range of coatings, organic or
water based.
IG710S Features:
- High Accuracy Diffuse Reflectance or "Backscatter" Gauge
- Able to measure moisture and coatings
The FS710S Forward Scatter Sensor uses
unique diffuse transmission technology to make a
highly accurate moisture measurement right through papers up
to 400 gsm basis weight.
FS710S Features:
- High Accuracy Diffuse Transmission or "Forward Scatter"
Gauge
- Very accurate moisture measurements on thicker papers and
boards
IG710S and FS710S Features:
- SpeedCal pre-calibrated
- Ultra high speed for maximum precision
- Dual detector technology for high stability measurement
- Window contamination monitor
- Unaffected by ambient conditions
- Unaffected by in-process product pass height
