The Gamma Backscatter (GBS) Gauge can handle a wide range
of applications, with a measurement range of 5 gsm to 25000
gsm.
The GBS sensor works under the principle of Compton photon
backscatter and consists of a photon emitter, a crystal to convert
photons to light energy, a photo-multiplier and supporting
electronics. The entire sensor weighs less than 3 pounds, and its
single-sided operation allows the use of a less-expensive
scanner.
Since the sensor's isotope has a very long, stable half-life,
the gauge does not require standardization, making it available
100% of the time. It is less composition sensitive than any other
gauge and is insensitive to air temperature changes.
All GBS 100 Gauges measure from one side of the product,
reducing purchase and installation costs. Maintenance
costs are also reduced due to the long source life. And
because gamma radiation is less composition sensitive, the 100
provides a stable and accurate measurement without the need for
standardization or recalibration.
