Coat Weight Measurement on Paper, Films and Foils

With so many different substrates and coating combinations, often representing the important value-added feature of a converted paper, film or metal product, it is vital that the right coat weight measurement sensor is selected.  The range of coating types is immense but key materials include:
  • Clay
  • Latex
  • Acrylic
  • Adhesives
  • NCR
  • Pigments
  • PVDC Barriers
  • Surface Preparations
  • Lacquers
These coating processes require that the system measures the coat weight accurately and independently of substrate characteristics. NDC Infrared Engineering has a whole range of sensors dedicated to coating measurements. NDC's Near Infrared (NIR) Measurement Platforms offer solutions for Paper, Plastic and Metallic or Metalized Films Substrates, and can measure coatings ranging in thickness from microns to millimeters.
Alternatively, NDC also offers X-Ray and nucleonic measurement systems.
Coupled to a full suite of available product control strategies, NDC systems for the converting industry are used to optimize process to achieve:
  • Flat coating profile
  • Optimized coatweight
  • Improved materials usage and process efficiency
