Manufacturers of Credit Cards as well as the audio and video
tape industry rely on film coatings for reproductive quality. The
coating process involves the deposition of a thin magnetic
coating onto a polymer substrate.
NDC Infrared Engineering has developed its XRF (X-Ray
Fluorescence Sensor) to measure the magnetic coatweight
directly using a special technique to fluoresce the coating on the
tape.
The measurement is achieved independently of the basis weight of
the polymer substrate making XRF far superior to the traditionally
offered Beta differential technique.
The polymer substrate is typically a biaxially oriented PET film
and NDC also offers a basis weight measurement of the substrate,
enabling control of the key process parameters. If you manufacture
PET biax film and would like to learn more about NDC's measurements

NDC's Profile Display Systems combine the measurement data from
the Sensor and the positional data from the Scanning Frame to build
a visualization of the cross-web and machine direction profile,
which can also be used for process control.
